Animal HBOT, engineered species by species
A veterinary hyperbaric chamber is a sealed pressure vessel in which the animal breathes oxygen at a pressure above atmospheric. The principle is the same hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) used in hospitals, but almost everything else changes: the animal's size and behaviour, how it gets in and out, hygiene, and how staff keep watch during the session.
Tech Plus has designed hyperbaric chambers for hospitals, armed forces, tunnelling contractors and commercial diving since 1988. Our design office in Bandol brings that pressure-vessel experience to veterinary medicine with one simple rule: start from the animal, the veterinarian's protocol and the building, never from a catalogue.

What animal HBOT is used for
The indication, pressure and session length are always the veterinarian's decision; these are the situations in which hyperbaric oxygen is used in veterinary medicine.
Hard-to-heal wounds and burns
Oxygen under pressure raises tissue oxygenation, so HBOT is used to support the healing of chronic or infected wounds, pressure sores and burns.
Severe infections
It can complement antibiotics and surgery against certain anaerobic infections, such as gas gangrene.
Carbon monoxide poisoning
It is used after carbon monoxide poisoning, including poisoning caused by smoke inhalation in a fire.
Trauma and ischaemia
After a crush injury or trauma that compromises circulation, it aims to bring more oxygen to ischaemic tissue.
Grafts and flaps
After reconstructive surgery, it is used when a skin graft or flap is compromised.
Racehorses and racing camels
For racehorses and racing camels, the indications are the same as for other animals: wounds, trauma and severe infections. A chamber installed at the equine clinic or the stable means an injured animal does not have to travel far.
Equine and camel hyperbaric chambers, built to measure
A horse cannot be treated in a scaled-up dog chamber. Its weight, its size and its reaction to confinement or to the noise of pressurisation call for a design of its own. Tech Plus designs large-format hyperbaric chambers for horses, whether racehorses, sport horses or leisure horses, and for racing camels.
Each species drives the design. For a horse, everything starts with the height at the withers, the restraint stall and the flooring, whether the animal is treated standing or lying down. A racing camel, in most cases a dromedary, couches, lying down with its legs folded beneath its body: the chamber must give it room to couch and stand up again without striking the walls, while accommodating its long neck.

For dogs, cats and other pets, Tech Plus designs monoplace chambers: one animal per session, in a unit compact enough for an established clinic. The photo at the top of this page shows one of our compact small-animal chambers.
Each unit is sized around the animals you treat most often, from cats to large-breed dogs, and around the way your treatment room is organised.

Your veterinary hyperbaric chamber, from study to maintenance
A veterinary chamber is pressure equipment in its own right. In the European Union, Directive 2014/68/EU applies to pressure equipment with a maximum allowable pressure above 0.5 bar. And because an oxygen-rich atmosphere raises the fire risk, safety has to be designed in from the first drawing rather than added at delivery.
We apply the method behind our multiplace hospital chambers, military chambers and TBM man locks: a specification written with the veterinarian, design in Bandol, then support through commissioning and beyond, including training for your staff.
