Military hyperbaric chambers for navies and armed forces

Recompressing an injured diver without delay, ashore or on board: that is the job of a military hyperbaric chamber. A hyperbaric specialist since 1988, Tech Plus designs fixed and mobile recompression chambers in Bandol, France, for French and foreign armed forces, and trains the crews who operate them.

Defence and military diving

A military hyperbaric chamber designed around your divers

Clearance divers, combat divers, ship's divers: in the armed forces, diving is a core skill, and it comes with the risk of decompression sickness and arterial gas embolism. A military hyperbaric chamber lets the team recompress an injured diver without delay, close to where the dive took place, before any transfer to a hospital hyperbaric centre.

Founded in 1988 by Laurent Freani and now based in Bandol, near Toulon, Tech Plus supplies hyperbaric chambers to French and foreign armed forces. The company handles engineering studies, design, transport, installation and maintenance, and trains staff in standard and emergency procedures. In 2020 it also supplied around thirty oxygen hoods to the Sainte-Anne military hospital (HIA Sainte-Anne) in Toulon.

Every navy has its own ships, procedures and logistics. So we start from your requirement (number of divers, available space, weight budget, means of transport) and define the military recompression chamber that fits it, rather than pushing a catalogue model.

Clearance and combat divers

On-site recompression after a diving accident, ashore or on board.

Fixed or mobile installations

A permanent chamber, a shipboard unit or a chamber built into a 20 ft container.

Trained crews

Standard and emergency procedures taught on your own equipment.

What armed forces expect from a recompression chamber

Safety-critical equipment is judged on its availability, how easily it integrates and the skill of the people who run it.

Armed forces experience

Chambers supplied to armed forces in France and abroad, backed by hyperbaric experience going back to 1988.

Designed to go on board

Weight and footprint are optimized from the design stage: our aluminium chamber, reported in the press in 2022, is about one tonne lighter than a steel equivalent.

Containerized option

A 5 bar chamber built into a 20 ft container with its own gas storage, for mobile requirements.

Mission-specific layout

Number of occupants, bunks, medical lock, breathing gases and control panel are defined with you, not imposed on you.

Trained operators

Chamber operators and technicians trained in standard and emergency procedures at commissioning.

Long-term support

Maintenance, expert assessment and advice from Bandol, in France and abroad. Across all its sectors, Tech Plus has worked in more than 28 countries.

Aluminium hyperbaric chamber for a navy: one tonne lighter

For one of its warships, the navy of a NATO member country asked Tech Plus for a lighter recompression chamber. The Bandol design office developed it in six months: an aluminium hyperbaric chamber weighing 1,100 kg, about one tonne less than an equivalent steel chamber, as the local press reported in April 2022.

At 3.70 m long, it holds three divers on two bunks and one seat. It has a viewport, breathing masks, a medical lock for passing medication and supplies in without depressurizing the chamber, and a fire protection system.

On a ship, every kilogram counts: a lighter chamber leaves more freedom in where it is installed and how it is handled. The same approach can be applied to other navies, with a layout matched to their own procedures.

Fixed, mobile or containerized military recompression chambers

Tech Plus delivers fixed and mobile installations alike. A fixed chamber serves a base or diving centre for the long term; a mobile installation moves with the teams to wherever they dive.

For mobile requirements, the Tech Plus containerized recompression chamber fits a 5 bar main chamber and entry lock, a medical lock, water-spray fire protection and B50 gas storage into a single 20 ft container. This containerized chamber is also available for rental.

Whatever the configuration, Tech Plus organizes transport, installation and commissioning, then trains your teams on site.
